Change is coming to The Vampire Diaries.

With the Heretics in town -- and Lily Salvatore (Annie Wersching) up to no good -- Mystic Falls is in a good deal of trouble when the show returns for its seventh season.

As the new trailer for the upcoming season teases, the residents of Mystic Falls have brokered a deal with the Heretics, but none of the good guys are thrilled about it. "Are we making a huge mistake handing over our home town to a bunch of supernatural terrorists?" asks Caroline (Candice Accola).

And the Salvatore brothers aren't excited about what their mother is doing, either. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) notes their mother is a "lunatic" and Stefan (Paul Wesley) sets out to learn how to make a bomb.

"Tonally, it's a little grim at first, because you got a little glimpse of that town [in the flash-forward]," The Vampire Diaries showrunner Caroline Dries told The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming season. "It doesn't necessarily start that way, but that vibe will be [present] in the show."
