'Veep,' 'Silicon Valley' Renewed at HBO
A day after their season premieres, HBO has handed out early renewals for comedies Veep and Silicon Valley.
"Veep and Silicon Valley are terrific series, and I’m immensely proud that they will return to HBO next year,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said in a release announcing the news Monday. “Along with Game of Thrones and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, both of which have already been renewed for 2016, they give HBO a stellar Sunday night like no other."
Julia Louis-Dreyfus starrer Veep will be back for its fifth season — and the first without series creator Armando Iannuci, who stepped down as showrunner last week. Curb Your Enthusiasm's David Mandel will take over as the point person on the White House comedy.
Mike Judge and Alec Berg's entry Silicon Valley, meanwhile, will return for a third season after the ensemble tech comedy broke through to score a comedy series Emmy nomination in its freshman season.
Silicon Valley and Veep join an HBO comedy lineup that also includes upcoming rookies Ballers, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and The Brink, with Jack Black and Tim Robbins, as well as Girls, Doll & Em, Togetherness and Getting On, the latter of which was renewed for a third and final season. Meanwhile, gay-themed comedy Looking will not be back for a third season but instead will wrap up its story with a movie.
