VH1 Renews Trio of RuPaul Series
RuPaul is the gift that keeps on giving for VH1 — and the network, in turn, has just renewed three of the drag icon's series: RuPaul’s Drag Race, All Stars and Untucked.
“Drag queens have been on the frontlines of many challenging times in our history,” said EP and host RuPaul. “RuPaul’s Drag Race 13, All Stars 6 and new seasons of Untucked will offer more opportunities for our queens to rise to the occasion and spread the love.”
The most recent season of the flagship, the reigning Emmy winner for outstanding reality competition, ranked as the franchise's highest-rated yet — hitting a live season high of a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49. This latest renewal brings the season count to 13, with All Stars getting a sixth season and after show Untucked hitting 14 seasons.
The arc of RuPaul’s Drag Race has been a highly unusual one by TV standards. Originally airing on Logo, Viacom's LGBTQ-oriented network, it made the move to VH1 when it gained in popularity. Recent years have seen it become a huge awards draw, as well. It will compete for 13 different Emmy nominations in September.
Earlier this year, Drag Race successfully pivoted to a virtual format for its finale. The top three queens delivered performances from their homes before Jaida Essence Hall ultimately took the crown.
