Ving Rhames is returning to the small screen.

The Mission: Impossible and Pulp Fiction alum has joined the cast of CBS' Cagney and Lacey reboot.

The pilot, based on the iconic 1980s show, centers on two female police detectives and friends who keep the streets of Los Angeles safe. Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless originally played Lacey and Cagney, respectively, on the original series. Grey's Anatomy's Sarah Drew will take over the role of Cagney, while Blindspot's Michelle Hurd is set as Lacey.

Rhames will portray Police Capt. Stark, the LAPD homicide coordinator who is unflappable and a leader who inspires loyalty in everyone around him.

Bridget Carpenter penned the script for CBS' Cagney and Lacey and executive produces alongside Rosemary Rodriguez, who will direct the pilot from CBS Television Studios and MGM Television.

Should Cagney and Lacey move forward, it would be Rhames' biggest TV role since TNT medical drama Monday Mornings was canceled after one season in 2013. His small-screen credits also include 2010's Gravity, 2005's Kojak and episodes of ER, among others, and he won a Golden Globe for Don King: Only in America. On the big screen, the actor has had roles in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Con Air. Rhames is repped by Kramer Management.
