Vladimir Putin Climbs Down Alec Baldwin-as-Trump's Chimney in 'SNL' Christmas Episode
Alec Baldwin returned to Saturday Night Live as President-elect Donald Trump to close out the year and the season's last episode on Dec. 17.
In a Christmas-themed cold open, Baldwin's Trump and his transition team adviser Kellyanne Conway (played by Kate McKinnon) reviewed their last few cabinet picks before a surprise (shirtless) visitor came down Trump's chimney.
"Is it a ghost? Am I being Scrooged?" Baldwin's Trump asked before a shirtless Vladimir Putin (played by Beck Bennett) appeared in front of him.
"I was just in town, you know, hiding in the walls," Bennett's Putin said after being warmly greeted by Baldwin's Trump. "Mr. Trump, I'm here because your CIA is saying that we Russians tried to make you win election."
"All lies made up by some very bitter people who need to move on," Baldwin's Trump said regarding claims of Russian hacking, to which Bennett's Putin replied, "So you trust me more than American CIA?"
"All I know is I won," responded Baldwin's Trump.
Bennett's Putin, in the holiday spirit, then pulled a gift from his Santa sack.
"This is Elf on the Shelf. It's fun, you just put it right here next to your internet router," he said, placing an elf doll, bugged with a recording device, above Trump’s chimney. "You keep it there all year, it's fun."
Baldwin's Trump apologized, saying he wasn't expecting Putin to visit and didn't have a gift to give in return.
"Please, Mr. Trump, you are the gift," Bennett's Putin assured him.
The two were later joined by Trump's Secretary of State pick Rex Tillerson (played by surprise guest John Goodman), who couldn't contain his excitement at seeing Putin.
"I just wanted to come by and … Puty? Oh … my … god!" Goodman's Tillerson exclaimed as the pair did a secret handshake. "You didn't tell me Puty was gonna be here! Man, have I been hoping to catch up with you!"
Trump, feeling left out, watched as Tillerson and Putin proceeded to discuss business plans, attempting to join the conversation by name-dropping: "I know Kanye. He came here, he's using my colorist now. He just says whatever he feels. He's like me, but a black."
Casey Affleck, with musical guest Chance the Rapper, hosted SNL's last episode of the year.
