After last night’s mostly stellar performances on The Voice, viewers cast their votes to determine the top ten. With the results out of their hands, coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams had to sit back and hope for the best for their teams.

One of the season’s advisors, Nick Jonas, returned to perform his single “Chains,” and then the first round of results were announced. The first artist saved was one of last night’s standouts, Kimberly Nicole from Team Christina. America also saved Team Pharrell’s Sawyer Fredericks, the youngest artist in the competition, and Team Blake’s very versatile Meghan Linsey. As three of the most consistent artists this season, there were no surprises here.

Shelton then took the stage with his top-12 team — Linsey, Corey Kent White and Hannah Kirby — to perform “In the Midnight Hour.” It was fun, but the performance really highlighted the fact that Kirby and Linsey have much more powerful presences than White. Linsey, in particular, stands out as Shelton’s chance to win again.

The results continued, and the next artists to advance were Team Christina’s India Carney and Team Blake’s Kirby. Joshua Davis also became the first artist of the night from Team Adam to advance.

Aguilera, Carney, Nicole, and Rob Taylor then gave a team performance of “Hotel California,” and even though it was a weird song choice genre-wise, it highlighted the vast range of the team. Team Christina remains the strongest in the competition.

As the results resumed, Team Pharrell’s Koryn Hawthorne advanced. Aguilera’s Taylor and Team Blake’s White also advanced, so both Shelton and Aguilera managed to hang onto all of their artists in the top ten. Team Blake and Team Christina made it through unscathed.

The bottom three then had to sing for America’s live save. Mia Z looked remarkably calm and confident in her live performance, hitting some of her high notes with ease. Singing “Amazed,” Brian Johnson took the stage next to sing for the save, and even though his voice sounded lovely, the performance didn’t really give voters much to get excited about. Deanna Johnson sang next and showed more confidence than usual, her voice filling the room.

After the instant-save votes from Twitter were tallied in real time, Team Adam’s Deanna Johnson advanced, and Mia Z and Brian Johnson were sent home. The top ten comprises three artists from Team Christina, three from Team Blake, two from Team Adam and two from Team Pharrell. Do you think America made the right instant save?
