Hulu Releases 'Handmaid's Tale,' 'Veronica Mars' Trailers
Hulu is offering up a first glimpse at its Veronica Mars revival, along with a full trailer for season three of its flagship series The Handmaid's Tale.
The two trailers debuted Wednesday as part of Hulu's upfront presentation, which also included orders for two new Marvel series, renewals for comedies Ramy and PEN15 and a straight-to-series order for Nine Perfect Strangers, a drama starring Nicole Kidman based on a novel by Liane Moriarty (Big Little Lies).
The Handmaid's Tale offered a brief look at June/Offred (Elisabeth Moss) in a 10-second teaser in February, showing her wearing the gray uniform of a Martha — domestic workers in Gilead. That shot is repeated in the full trailer, which also gives a much better sense of where June stands following the divisive decision to have her stay in Gilead in the season two finale rather than escape to Canada.
Turns out she's fighting from the inside, enlisting other handmaids and even (perhaps) Yvonne Strahovski's Serena Joy to her cause. "You have influence," June tells Serena, to which she replies, "Up to a point."
"So move the point," June answers.
The Handmaid's Tale premieres June 5. Watch the trailer below.
The teaser for Veronica Mars lays out the basics of the case: Spring break partiers in Neptune are being killed via a series of bombings, and Veronica (Kristen Bell) is hired by the family of one victim to investigate. The teaser includes looks at returning stars Jason Dohring and Enrico Colantoni as well as shots of new castmembers Patton Oswalt and J.K. Simmons.
Creator Rob Thomas has said the new season will be "hardcore So-Cal noir" and delve into the class divide in Neptune that has been a running thread throughout the series.
All eight episodes of Veronica Mars will premiere July 26. Hulu will also add the show's prior seasons and 2014 feature film to its service in the summer, though a date hasn't been set.
