This Week in TV Trailers: 'Iron Fist,' 'Feud,' Oprah Winfrey in 'Henrietta Lacks,' More
In this week's roundup, Oprah Winfrey stars alongside Rose Byrne in HBO's The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Veep's Selina Meyer demands a legacy to be remembered and the last Defender, Iron Fist's Danny Rand (Finn Jones), gets an extended featurette.
Turn up the volume, pay attention and grab some popcorn to watch the hottest TV promos of the week.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
The first trailer for the Winfrey starrer shows the actress stepping into the real-life story of Deborah Lacks, who is on a mission to learn more about her mother, Henrietta Lacks, whose cells were used to create the first immortal cell line in 1951. "My whole life, what I cared about is knowing about my mother," says Winfrey's character.
"Being an ex-president is like being a man's nipple. People go right by you to jerk off a dick," Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) pronounces in the HBO Emmy-winning comedy's season-six teaser. The new season will follow the now former president as she attempts to figure out what's next. Says Meyer, "I was the first female president and I will not work for less than 87 cents on the dollar." One thing will be for certain, according to showrunner David Mandel: "Gary [Tony Hale] will be by her side."
March 17 can't come soon enough for Marvel maniacs being introduced to Netflix's last defender, the Iron Fist. And this featurette, fittingly titled "I Am Danny," gives an extended introduction to the character. Danny Rand "just wants to do the right thing, but he has this fire in him," the show's leading man Jones says. Viewers get a preview of the fire of the fist and get to see the "mark of the Iron Fist," which is "not exactly a tattoo."
The Handmaid's Tale
"I play a woman who is fertile, and any woman who is fertile is captured and enslaved," Elisabeth Moss says about the drama based on Margaret Atwood's book about the dystopian world and extreme regime. Also in the teaser is Alexis Bedel in her first role since the Gilmore Girls revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, as is Orange Is the New Black's fan favorite Samira Wiley.
The Get Down
The date announcement (April 7) for the second half of Baz Luhrmann's Netflix music drama comes with a teaser of what to expect next: "We're going to take our music from minor to major league."
FX can't get enough of teasing the Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange anthology. Last week, 13 promos were released for the series. And on Friday, the network released another one, previewing the onscreen adaptation about the real-life feud between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. Based on the promos so far, which leading lady are you siding with?
Season six of the Freeform series teases Tahj Mowry, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, more shirtless Derek Theler and another baby on the way. The spring premiere is March 13.
