WGN America is looking to the producers of Jane the Virgin for its next drama.

The cable network has picked up a script from Electus for El Double, based on the Spanish-language format Tiro de Gracia from Televisa USA and Caracol, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

El Double centers on a cunning Mexican drug kingpin who hires a down-on-his-luck American actor as his body double to evade the authorities and his enemies from the cartel underworld.

Alfredo Barrios Jr. (Burn Notice) will pen the English-language adaptation and executive produce alongside Electus' Ben Silverman, Sean Canino, Jay Weisleder and Televisa USA's head of global production and distribution Chris Philip.

The deal marks the latest format remake for Electus, which recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for The CW's critical darling Jane the Virgin. The company also has Netflix's Marco Polo, which was renewed for a second season.

For Televisa, El Double marks the latest format to come to the U.S. after Lifetime's Devious Maids and ABC Family's Chasing Life.

For WGN America, El Double — if ordered to series — could join a slate that includes Manhattan, Underground, Outsiders and Salem.
