FX is sinking its teeth into more of the vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows.

The Disney-owned cable network has renewed the show, based on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's 2014 feature film, for a second season to air in 2020. The mockumentary follows a group of vampires and their human familiars on Staten Island.

"Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi and [showrunner] Paul Simms have more than delivered on the high expectations of Shadows fans by adapting the cult classic for television and building a passionate base of new and returning fans," FX president of original programming Nick Grad said Tuesday in a statement. "We also want to thank the rest of the creative team, including Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush, and the incredible cast and crew for delivering such a fun and original series, and we look forward to working with them all on season two."

The pickup comes midway through the show's first season, which debuted in late March. The 10-episode run is scheduled to conclude May 29. An episode count for season two hasn't been determined.

What We Do in the Shadows has been a solid performer for FX thus far. Through five episodes, the series ranks in the top five among 34 cable comedies that have debuted in 2019 among adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and total viewers. It averages 2.81 million viewers across all platforms, including replays, on demand and streaming.

The cast includes Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén and Mark Proksch. Clement (Flight of the Conchords, Legion) is credited as the creator and executive produces with Waititi, Simms, Rudin, Basch and Bush.

What We Do in the Shadows is part of an FX lineup that includes fellow comedies Atlanta, Baskets, Better Things and the upcoming Breeders; and the dramas American Horror Story, Fosse/Verdon, Taboo, Legion, SnowfallTrust, Pose, Mayans MC and the upcoming Y (which is changing showrunners). Anthology series Fargo is expected back in 2020, and the cabler has the limited series Devs, Shogun and Mrs. America in the works, as well.
