Winds of Winter is heating up.

George R.R. Martin has released a new excerpt from the upcoming sixth installment of A Song of Ice and Fire series. The new look centers on Sansa (going by the name Alayne Snow) and also features little lord Robert Arryn.

Here's how the 6,700-word except begins:

"She was reading her little lord a tale of the Winged Knight when Mya Stone came knocking on the door of his bedchamber, clad in boots and riding leathers and smelling strongly of the stable. Mya had straw in her hair and a scowl on her face. That scowl comes of having Mychel Redfort near, Alayne knew."

Martin wrote on his blog that the post would have gone up on Wednesday, but he "did not want it mistaken for an April Fool's joke."

The long awaited novel has no release date, but Martin has signaled in recent weeks that he is buckling down in order to complete it. He's forgoing several convention appearances — including San Diego Comic-Con — and also announced he will not pen an episode for Game of Thrones season six in order to free himself up for Winds of Winter. Martin also did not write an episode for season five.

Martin released a Winds of Winter excerpt last year on the eve of Game of Thrones' season fours premiere. His teases of the book go all the way back to December 2011, when he released a chapter titled "Theon." His previous installment, A Dance With Dragons, came out in 2011.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 12.
