'So You Think You Can Dance' Renewed for Season 14 at Fox
So You Think You Can Dance, a show that's seen its renewal notice come later and later each year, will indeed return again this summer.
Fox on Monday announced that it has commissioned a 14th season of the Emmy-winning reality competition. But, unlike last year, the show will not be focusing on a pool of adolescents, instead featuring dancers between 18 and 30 years old.
“This season is about giving our loyal fan base what they’ve been asking for,” executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe said in a statement. “We’ve decided to go back to basics by bringing the best of our past formats together for an exciting new summer featuring accomplished adult competitors partnered with fan-favorite all-star dancers. And, of course, as in past seasons, there will be new surprises which are sure to wow our viewers.”
Gone this season is the multi-market talent search. Instead, prospects will submit video on an online registration forum before traveling to either New York (March 4-6) or Los Angeles (March 17-19) for the casting call.
So You Think You Can Dance has seen its ratings dip in recent years, but it offers welcome stability to Fox's summer lineup. It also remains a rare prestige play in the reality world. To date, the show has received 55 Emmy nominations and 14 wins, many of them for outstanding choreography.
