Amblin Partners will adapt comics American Reaper and Reaper Files for the big screen. The studio will partner with Doctor Sleep producers Intrepid Pictures to develop and produce the project, with Amblin financing.
Ciarán Foy will direct, after recently partnering with Intrepid on Netflix horror movie Eli. The series from Pat Mills and Clint Langley is a sci-fi action noir, set in a near-future where the aging elite, called “Snatchers,” prey upon the young, paying to hijack their bodies in order to prolong their own lives. This extreme form of identity crime has become so rampant on the black market that law enforcement has been forced to create a new division, which the public has nicknamed “Reapers.”
Foy and Kyle Ward will co-write the script, based on their original pitch. Trevor Macy and Flanagan will produce the project, with Melinda Nishioka executive producing for Intrepid. Celine Rattray, Trudie Styler and Alex Francis will also serve as executive producers. Jeb Brody and John Buderwitz will oversee for Amblin.
Foy, repped by CAA, Management 360 and Ziffren Brittenham, was the director behind Sinister 2. Most recently, he directed an episode of Netflix’s upcoming The Haunting of Bly Manor, the follow-up anthology series to Flanagan’s popular The Haunting of Hill House.
Intrepid, repped by WME, was behind Doctor Sleep, starring Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson, and is currently in production on Midnight Mass for Netflix. Flanagan is repped by Novo and VanderKloot Law. Ward is repped by Verve, Management 360 and Myman Greenspan. Macy is repped by Reder & Feig.
