[Warning: The final scene of Batman No. 32 is going to be revealed in this story. Run across the rooftops in the opposite direction if you don’t want the surprise to be spoiled.]
Is it going to be Batman and Wife? This week’s issue of DC Entertainment’s Batman comic book series will reveal the long-awaited answer from Selina Kyle — Catwoman herself — to Bruce Wayne’s proposal, which happened four months ago in Batman No. 25.
And the answer is…yes.
The reveal came via USA Today, at the end of the current “The War of Jokes and Riddles” storyline, which sees Bruce Wayne reveal his darkest secret as the Dark Knight to Selina in an attempt to tell all before she makes her decision. In the end, she’s not scared off.
“That to me is what true love is,” writer Tom King told the newspaper. “It’s showing who you truly are to someone. It’s letting someone know deep down who you are and that’s horribly frightening and it scares Batman as much as anything ever has.”
So what’s next for the happy couple? Telling the rest of the world, which won’t be easy, apparently. “Some people are going to think, ‘Oh, my gosh, he’s gone insane, we need to fix him.’ And others will go, ‘He’s gone sane. We finally have a Batman we’ve been looking for,'” King said. “Most superheroes, you make them happy and you end conflict — you give Spider-Man a wife and where do you go from there? But Batman’s the opposite: You give him happiness and you create conflict, because he’s fundamentally a sad character.”
Illustrated by Mikel Janin, Batman No. 32 will be in comic book stores and available digitally Wednesday.
