Almost a year after Marvel Entertainment announced that the final issues of its 2015 event series Secret Wars would be delayed, with the series gaining an additional issue to resolve the storyline properly, it has been revealed that the final issues of Civil War II, the company’s 2016 event series, also will be delayed, with the series gaining an additional issue to resolve the storyline properly.
The delays take effect immediately. The fifth issue of the series, originally scheduled for release Aug. 17, will now be released Sept. 14, and the sixth issue, originally dated for Sept. 21, is now scheduled for an Oct. 5 release. The seventh issue is still scheduled for release Oct. 19, but it will no longer be the final issue of the series, according to writer Brian Michael Bendis.
Bendis announced the changes to the book’s release schedule on Tumblr, where he said that the delay was due to artist David Marquez having a baby in the middle of the series. Explaining that the schedule is getting back on track, Bendis went on to say that Marvel has added another issue to the series.
“I came up with a better ending but needed the pages,” he explained, adding that he was “very grateful that they let us do our thing.”
Even assuming that there are no further delays to the series’ schedule, the inclusion of an (as-yet unscheduled) additional issue of Civil War II will mean that the series will end after a linewide publishing relaunch begins, predicated on events that take place in the finale of the Civil War II storyline — just as last year’s All-New All-Different Marvel relaunch started before the Secret Wars series, which was intended to set the relaunch into motion, finished its run.
