Crazy Ex-Girlfriend co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna is about to fulfill a long-term dream, and adapt a classic piece of literature — but she’s not going to be doing it onscreen. Instead, Jane will be McKenna’s first comic book work, and Heat Vision has the exclusive preview of the upcoming project.
The 240-page graphic novel, by McKenna and Eisner Award-winning artist Ramon K. Perez, adapts and updates Charlotte Bronte’s 1947 novel Jane Eyre, placing it in contemporary New York City, where Jane — now an art student, who’s come to the city to study — has to decide whether or not she can trust the man she’s fallen in love with…who just so happens to have a dark secret.
The book continues McKenna’s relationship with Boom!, with the writer having previously adapted the graphic novel Rust for 20th Century Fox. Jane itself was originally intended as a movie project, but a chance meeting with Perez — whose work includes the graphic novel Tale of Sand, as well as stints on Marvel’s All-New Hawkeye, The Amazing Spider-Man and Wolverine & the X-Men — led to the creation of the graphic novel, instead.
Published by Boom!’s Archaia imprint, Jane will be released Sept. 13 in comic book stores, and Sept. 19 in bookstores.
