For Polish studio CD Projekt Red, at least, Gamescom was a success.
Cyberpunk 2077, the studio’s long-awaited action role-player, was the big winner at the 2020 European games fair, winning the overall Best of Gamescom Award as well as prizes for best PlayStation game, best PC game, best roleplaying titles and the Most Wanted consumer prize voted on by regular gamers.
The dystopian title, in which players take on the role of a mercenary called an edgerunner, a cyberpunk figure who jacks into a Matrix-esque version of the “deep net,” has been at the top of gamers’ wish lists at least since last year’s E3 conference when designers revealed that Keanu Reeves who play the character of Johnny Silverhands, a legendary edgerunner whose character lives inside the player’s mind.
