Dark days are coming to DC’s comic book universe — literally.
This summer, best-selling Batman writer Scott Snyder will lead an all-star team of creators, including DC Entertainment co-publisher Jim Lee, for two special issues intended to reveal a mystery at the heart of DC’s comic book universe, launching an event storyline called Dark Days.
The two issues — June’s Dark Days: The Forge and the following month’s Dark Days: The Casting — will see Snyder team with fan-favorite Detective Comics writer James Tynion IV, with Lee joined on artistic chores by Andy Kubert and John Romita Jr.
“Dark Days posits a mystery that traces all the way back to when I started on Batman,” Snyder said in a statement provided by DC. “I’ve hinted at them over the years with Easter eggs and clues. This is a mystery that literally begins at the dawn of man and spans generations of heroes and villains and ultimately leads to huge revelations about the past, present and future of the cosmology of DC.”
The storyline has already been teased in Tynion IV’s Detective Comics run, with the recent 950th issue including a prelude giving a rundown of Batman’s placement of agents throughout the DC universe — something that seems even more pressing given the focus on Batman in Lee’s cover for The Forge, below:
More details about Dark Days will be released in coming weeks.
