It’s almost that time of the year again, with DC announcing that Sept. 19 will see this year’s Batman Day, the annual celebration of all things Dark Knight, which this year comes with the added opportunity of being able to drive like the Batman. (Batmobile, sadly, not included.)
The release of a new Batman and the Riddler theme on Waze, Google’s GPS software, is one of the new activations for Batman Day 2020, alongside special DC Super Hero and Super Villain playlists on Spotify, available via the Waze Audio Player feature. Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series voices directions as part of the Waze launch, with Wally Wingert voicing the Riddler.
Other product partnerships include the Batman Virtual 5K/10K Run, created in partnership with RAM Racing, which launches Aug. 31 and offers participants exclusive Batman-branded gear as they participate in a run with the Dark Knight.
Beyond that, new Batman-specific content will be available in the Injustice 2 mobile game, DC Legends and DC Universe Online games, with Batman content being offered for free via digital comic platforms and via BatmanDay.com. Digital comics featuring the character will also be available at discounted rates during the day, as well, with a sale of more than 400 ebooks and 3,000 digital comics planned.
Interestingly, per DC, subscription service DC Universe — which has recently started sharing video content with HBO Max — will have “some exciting news you won’t want to miss.” HBO Max will see Batman takeover the DC hub for Sept. 18 and 19, and Cartoon Network territories abroad will feature exclusive Batman-themed programming.
The Sept. 19 date for the event means it will follow the second DC FanDome event, DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse, which takes place Sept. 12 and features new content across multiple channels, in addition to a rebroadcast of content from the first event.
