Disney’s Star Wars Land Will Feature Cantina With Alcoholic Drinks

For the first time in its 63-year history, guests will be able to enjoy an alcoholic beverage inside Disneyland outside of the secretive invite-only Club 33 hidden in New Orleans Square.

As the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction nears completion and its scheduled unveiling in 2019, the Disney Parks Blog has announced the park section’s very own watering hole, Oga’s Cantina. 

“Oga’s Cantina is the kind of establishment that attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy,” the Disney Parks statement reads. “And you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up. Patrons of the cantina come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using ‘otherworldly’ methods, served in unique vessels. With choices for kids and libations for adults, the cantina will make for a great stop!”

While the wording of “libations for adults” may be vague, a representative for Disney Parks confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Oga’s Cantina will, in fact, serve alcohol.

“The hottest trend today in parks and attractions across the country is the inclusion of unique, specialty, craft and themed beverages,” says Ken Whiting, a member of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions’ board of directors. “Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will take that to the next level.”

The establishment will be run by Oga Garra, billed as “an intriguing alien proprietor” and “with a history of being a smugglers’ safe haven and a popular stopping point for those seeking to avoid the authorities, you can bet that the cantina has a story or two to tell.” This description falls in line with previous news that guests will be able to build a “reputation” in Galaxy’s Edge based on their experiences and decisions while visiting the attraction.

In addition to Oga, visitors will recognize a familiar face in the crowds of scum and villainy: RX-24, the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid that once piloted the Star Tours ride in Tomorrowland. RX-24 was replaced by C-3PO in 2011. Neither has proved to be a competent pilot. In his new role, RX-24 will be the resident DJ at Oga’s.

Galaxy’s Edge was officially announced in 2015, with construction beginning in April 2016. It covers a 14-acre area in Disneyland and is the first major expansion to the park since the introduction of Bear County (later rebranded as Critter Country) in 1972. 

Adults visiting Disneyland have been able to enjoy alcoholic beverages at its sister location, California Adventure, which similarly underwent a massive expansion in 2012 with the introduction of Cars Land and earlier this year with its rebranding of Paradise Pier to Pixar Pier.
