Eyebrows might have been raised by the inclusion of Gwen Stacy in Marc Webb‘s 2011 The Amazing Spider-Man movie reboot, if only because of what happens to the character in Spider-Man’s comic book continuity. Just how closely would the movies follow the lead of the comics, longtime fans wondered.
“I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen’s story has closely to the comic as possible,” Emma Stone, the actress who plays Gwen in the Amazing movies, told Ryan Seacrest this morning — a comment that may make the appearance of a Green Goblin in the promotion for this summer’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 far more important than it had appeared at first.
STORY: Marc Webb Promises ‘Operatic’ Sequel to ‘Amazing Spider-Man’
For those who aren’t familiar with Gwen’s comic book fate, you might want to skip the rest of this story for fear of spoilers. Just a warning.
Stone also told Seacrest that the second Amazing Spider-Man movie would see Andrew Garfield‘s Peter Parker “struggling with promises he’s made in the last movie and the consequences of making those.” Considering that movie ended with Peter promising Gwen’s dying father that he’d keep her safe, it’s another hunt that, just maybe, Movie Gwen is going to end up going the same way Comic Gwen did.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released May 2. The cries of the audience may be heard soon after.
