This week, as the 50th New York Film Festival wraps up its first week, I discuss some of the major awards-related stories that have been developing while New Yorkers have been checking out films at Lincoln Center.
Among them: the recent announcements about what/who will be honored at October’s Hollywood Film Awards, including the cast of Argo, the supporting actress Amy Adams (The Master), and the screenwriter Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained); the opening and closing night selections for November’s AFI Fest, Hitchcock and Lincoln; the first screener to arrive in journalists’ mailboxes, Richard Linklater‘s Bernie, which features a noteworthy performance by Jack Black; the box-office triumphs of End of Watch (in wide release) and The Master (at art houses); the just-announced DVD and Blu-Ray release date for The Dark Knight Rises, which can use a re-boot after its opening weekend was overshadowed by the tragic shooting in Aurora, Col.; and new promotional materials for Les Miserables, The Hobbit, and Silver Linings Playbook.
