‘A Very Sordid Wedding’ Gets Premiere Date, Limited Theatrical Release

A Very Sordid Wedding, the latest from writer-director Del Shores, will have its world premiere March 10, followed by an exclusive two-week theatrical release at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs.

A Very Sordid Wedding is a sequel to the hit play, TV series and movie Sordid Lives, the latter of which screened at Camelot Theatres for 96 weeks upon its release.

Set in Winters, Texas, the feature explores the acceptance, conflict and bigotry in the weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage equality ruling in the highly conservative, Southern Baptist setting.

The film’s Palm Springs run will be followed by a national limited theatrical run and expansion to Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and other cities, handled by The Film Collaborative.

A Very Sordid Wedding boasts an ensemble cast of 32, led by Bonnie Bedelia, Caroline Rhea, Dale Dickey and Leslie Jordan, and includes castmembers from the original Sordid Lives film.

“Not a day goes by where someone doesn’t write me asking me for more Sordid Lives,” said Shores in a statement. “So many of my LGBTQ fans, of all ages, have come out to their folks by showing them Sordid Lives because the humor helped them share their own story. I am excited to bring my characters up to July 2015, where they are hit with the reality of Texas having full equality.”
