The first official trailer for one of Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s final films, A Most Wanted Man, has been released.
In the Anton Corbijn-directed film, which premiered at Sundance, Hoffman plays a spy who runs a low-profile intelligence unit dedicated to tracking Hamburg’s large Muslim community. He ends up leading an intricate scheme to apprehend a prominent local Muslim community leader, Dr. Faisal Abdullah, and expose a network of illicit terrorist funding being run out of Germany.
McAdams plays a human rights lawyer who leads Hoffman’s character to one of the key individuals in the plan.
Indeed, Hoffman’s spy is trying to use small fish to catch bigger ones, or as he says in the trailer, “It takes a minnow to catch a barracuda and a barracuda to catch a shark.”
The trailer also features footage of the Hamburg spies nabbing McAdams’ character, putting a bag over her head and throwing her in a van, and grabbing Abdullah.
In the clip, Wright’s U.S. ambassador explains the suspicions around Abdullah.
“He moves money through a network of Muslim charities and every time he does some of it goes missing,” she says. “The man is tolerant, engaged with the west, but every good man has a little bit of bad, and in Abdullah’s case, that little bit just might kill you.”
Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions is set to release the movie on July 25.
