Adam Sandler and Chris Rock are set to star in Netflix’s The Week Of, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The Grown Ups actors will reunite in the comedy directed by frequent Happy Madison collaborator Robert Smigel, who co-wrote the script with Sandler. It centers on the week before a wedding in which their characters’ kids get married. The film will begin production in Long Island, New York this summer, and debut on Netflix globally in 2018.
Sandler and Allen Covert will produce for Happy Madison, with Barry Bernardi and Tim Herlihy serving as executive producers.
The Week Of is the final title of Sandler’s four-film exclusive with Netflix — a deal that was renewed last month. His latest release, Sandy Wexler, bowed last week, and the first two movies released under that deal — The Ridiculous 6 and The Do-Over — are Netflix’s biggest film releases ever. Sandler is also in Netflix’s The Meyerowitz Stories, the Noah Baumbach film that will premiere at Cannes. The comedy also marks another Netflix pairing for Rock, who signed a $40 million deal for two stand-up specials. He makes a brief appearance in Sandy Wexler.
Sandler is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Rock is repped by ICM Partners and Smigel by CAA.
