Sci-fi space adventure Europa has lift off.
Nick Meyer and Marc Schaberg’s Sierra/Affinity announced Wednesday it has closed a dozen territory deals for the pic — starring Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Christian Camargo and Karolina Wydra — heading into AFM. Producers are Kevin Misher and Ben Browning. Sierra/Affinity launched the project to foreign buyers in Toronto, and will continue to see the film at AFM.
Sebastian Cordero begins shooting the pic at Cine Magic’s new studio in New York on Nov. 7.
Sierra/Affinity has sold the film to Metropolitan Filmexport in France, Hopscotch in Australia and New Zealand, Noori Pictures in South Korea, Ascot Elite in Germany and Switzerland, Tanweer in India, Ster Kinekor Entertainment in South Africa, PT Amero Mitra Film in Indonesia, Media Film International in Thailand, United King Video in Israel and Eagle Films in the Middle East.
From a script by Philip Gelatt, Europa is about a group of astronauts from around the world who are handpicked to make the arduous journey to Jupiter’s frigid, glacial moon Europa in search of alien life. The only thing more intimidating and unpredictable than the trip itself is what the team will encounter upon arrival.
