Veteran international executive Helen Lee-Kim is reuniting with Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane at Good Universe, where she’ll serve as partner and president of international, helping to further establish the company’s global footprint at the upcoming American Film Market in Santa Monica.
Her arrival at Good Universe — formed earlier this year after Drake exited as Lionsgate Motion Picture Group — was widely expected. Lee-Kim worked with Drake at Lionsgate and before that, with Drake and Kahane at Mandate Pictures.
Brent Jack, who likewise worked at Lionsgate and Mandate, also is reteaming with his former bosses, serving as Good Unvierse’s head of international marketing and publicity.
Lee-Kim served as president of international at Lionsgate, a gig she took after Lionsgate bought Mandate. She handled international sales on a number of films, including The Hunger Games, the Saw franchise, Hope Springs and The Possession.
Jack seved as executive vp international marketing at Lionsgate and will continue his decade long partnership with Lee-Kim, developing customized sales launches and supervising international rollouts for all films on the company’s growing slate.
“Helen is one of a kind,” Drake and Kahane said in a joint statement. “Her smarts, energy and enthusiasm have earned her the top spot in the international business. Her success and history of building extraordinary teams is why she is the go-to for distributors, filmmakers and financiers worldwide. We have worked closely together on so many great movies and know that she is a key building block in the continued success of our company.”
Lee-Kim added: “The beauty of being reunited with the guys is that we have such shorthand from years of working together, and I can hit the ground running. I’m so excited to put my mark on the company and take it to the next level. We’ll be an unstoppable team.”
Building upon key relationships, Lee-Kim will align the company with third-party producers and financiers who are also committed to bringing feature films with broad commercial appeal to the international marketplace. She will also help drive the international group’s evolution into the television business.
