Dustin Hoffman has signed up to star in Boychoir.
The film, which will be directed by Francois Girard (The Red Violin) from an original screenplay by Source Code writer Ben Ripley, also will feature Alfred Molina and Kathy Bates in supporting roles.
Hoffman will play Choir Master Carvelle, who runs a boys choir school on the East Coast. The story follows a troubled and angry 11-year-old named Stet who is sent off to the school. A search is currently underway to cast the young lead.
Molina will play Drake, a teacher at the school; Bates will portray the school’s headmistress.
The film is being financed and produced by Informant Media. Informant Media’s Judy Cairo, Carol Baum and Jane Goldenring are producing. Michael A. Simpson, Eric Brenner and Ben Ripley are executive producing.
Embankment Films is handling international sales and will sell the film at the American Film Market, which begins Nov. 6 in Santa Monica.
Hoffman made his directorial debut with Quartet (2012), which grossed $60 million worldwide. He recently wrapped production on Jon Favreau‘s Chef. He’s repped by WME and Greenberg Glusker.
Molina, a prolific voice actor, appeared in Monsters University and Rango, and also had roles in live-action films The Forger and Abduction. He’s repped by WME and Hyler Management.
Bates is starring on the current season of American Horror Story and will appear in the upcoming film Tammy. She’s repped by ICM Partners.
Girard is repped by Cassaroto, Ramsey & Associates. Ripley is repped by The Gersh Agency and Mosaic. Informant Media is represented by attorney Elsa Ramo at Ramo Law. Baum and Goldenring are represented by The Gersh Agency.
