Nicole Kidman is in negotiations to replace Gwyneth Paltrow in Billy Ray’s English-language remake of the Argentine thriller The Secret in Their Eyes.
IM Global, which is fully financing the film, is selling the drama at AFM.
Ray wrote the script and is directing Eyes, which also will star Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The original Spanish-language movie, which won the Oscar for best foreign-language film in 2010, centered on a retired attorney who seeks closure for an unsolved case and for his unrequited love for his former superior by writing a book. The process, however, opens more doors than it closes as decades-long secrets are revealed. It was written and directed by Juan Jose Campanella.
Kidman has several projects in the can, among them biopics Grace of Monaco, in which she portrays Grace Kelly, and Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert, in which she portrays explorer Gertrude Bell.
She is repped by CAA.
