Alain Attal Named Best French Producer at 5th Annual Prix Daniel Toscan du Plantier Ceremony

France’s Academy of Film Arts and Sciences named Les Films du Tresor’s Alain Attal the country’s most treasured producer at the fifth annual Daniel Toscan du Plantier prize ceremony  ceremony in Paris on Monday night.

The producer of this year’s breakout hit Poliss joined French Cultural Minister Frederic Mitterand, Academy president Alain Terzian, Gallic talent including actresses Cecile Cassel and Marina Hands plus last year’s prize winner The Artist producer Thomas Langmann and a room full of the country’s top producers at a swank dinner at Parisian palace the George V Four Seasons hotel.

“I’m very moved, very touched,” Attal said of the award, adding: “This movie was a gift for me.”

Poliss earned the jury prize at last May’s Festival de Cannes and topped this year’s Cesar Awards nominations with 11 nods.

“I do my job with a lot of passion and I’m so happy you’ve honored me in this way,” Attal said upon accepting his award.

The prize is named for Daniel Toscan du Plantier, producer and head of French film promotion organization Unifrance, who died in 2003. A hand-picked jury composed of the members of France’s Association for Film Promotion, plus last year’s Cesar award winners, chose from a pool of 127 eligible producers for films made in 2010. The Artist producer Thomas Langmann won the prize in both 2010 and 2011.

In true French fashion, the winner was determined at the last minute. The online vote closed just 20 minutes before the dinner began and was announced just as guests were diving into rich chocolate tarts for dessert.

The 36th annual Cesar Awards ceremony will be held on Friday, Feb. 24th at Paris’ Chatelet Theater and broadcast live and unencrypted on pay TV network Canal Plus.
