Last week, Heat Vision broke the news that the Oscar winner would no longer be composing the music for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with Star Trek composer Michael Giacchino picking up the conducting baton for the first Star Wars stand-alone.
But the French film composer has already lined up another space-set adventure. Desplat will compose the score for Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
Besson made the announcement Tuesday on his Instagram account.
Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne are starring in the sci-fi feature that is set to hit theater July 21, 2017.
Desplat won the Oscar for his work on Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. He also is set to compose Anderson’s next film, a stop-motion animation about dogs that will star Bryan Cranston and Edward Norton.
