The Space Jockey rides again.
In honor of Ridley Scott’s 79th birthday, 20th Century Fox has released a new set photo from Alien: Covenant, and it shows the director flanking one of the creations from his original 1979 Alien.
That film introduced the mysterious alien race without further exploring it, simply showing a creature who had been killed by the Xenomorph. Over the years, the mythology and fan speculation around the Space Jockey grew, and Scott further developed that mythology in 2012’s Prometheus, which suggested its race of aliens to which the Jockey belongs created humanity.
And a new kind of horror was born. Happy Birthday, Ridley Scott. #AlienCovenant pic.twitter.com/xJcnXilplc

Alien: Covenant recently debuted its first poster and also moved its release date up three months. It will open May 19, 2017.
Covenant will feature Noomi Rapace, reprising her role as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw from the 2012 prequel Prometheus. Franchise newcomers Billy Crudup, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride and Carmen Ejogo also star. Prometheus’ Michael Fassbender is returning as the android David.
