Ahead of Alien: Covenant, Weyland-Yutani has unveiled the ad campaign for Walter, its latest synthetic companion and well … you might want one, as long as you’re not too concerned about it betraying you in favor of an ulterior corporate motive.
The new ad features Michael Fassbender as the next generation of lifelike android, and was directed by Luke Scott from an idea by Covenant‘s Ridley Scott and consultancy firm 3AM. The short was produced by RSA Films, Scott’s production company for advertising and commercial work.
Amusingly, the ad contains a riff on the traditional small print for medical ads, this time warning that “Matchmaking interview and DNA screening” is required, and that “default payments with forfeit DNA rights in perpetuity.”
In addition to the video, 20th Century Fox has launched a Meet Walter website that details some of the functionality of the android and released a poster to accompany the promotion, which explains that Walter is “designed to help you and only you achieve the optimal human experience.”
The “Walter” ad echoes promotion for Scott’s last Alien movie, 2012’s Prometheus; that feature was teased by an ad for Walter’s predecessor, David:
Apparently, no matter which generation android Fassbender plays, he remains the creepy personification of Apple promotional videos throughout.
Alien: Covenant will be released May 19.
