Angelina Jolie Says Taxes Could Prevent Her From Getting U.K. Property

Angelina Jolie, a regular U.K. dweller due to shoots such as Maleficent at London’s Pinewood Studios, has said that proposals for a so-called “mansion tax” could keep her from buying a property in Britain amid recent reports that she had looked at an apartment in London.

Speaking to Channel 4 News to promote the film Unbroken, which had its U.K. premiere in London on Tuesday, Jolie said that she was “quite fond” of Britain and signaled an interest in possibly getting a place there. “I have lived here before, and in the future I think it would be really nice to have a foothold here for work, some kind of an office,” she said.

But told about plans for the new tax, suggested by the opposition Labour Party and targeting properties worth more than $3.1 million, Jolie admitted it could well affect her decision. “I’m quite responsible about money. That could put me off,” she said.

Earlier this week, U.K. media reported that Jolie and Brad Pitt had viewed a $39 million five-bedroom London apartment close to popular celebrity hangout The Chiltern Firehouse.
