Sydney will host the world premiere of Angelina Jolie‘s Unbroken on Nov. 17, distributor Universal Pictures said Thursday.
Jolie will return to Sydney, where she shot the inspirational story of U.S. World War II veteran and Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini earlier this year. Unbroken, Jolie’s sophomore feature as a director, is generating Oscar buzz ahead of its U.S. release on Christmas Day. The film also was shot in Queensland, Australia.
Jolie will be joined on the red carpet at Sydney’s historic State Theatre by the film’s stars, Jack O’Connell (Zamperini) and Miyavi, who plays Japanese army sergeant Mutsuhiro Watanabe, aka “The Bird.” The State Theatre hosts the competition and premiere films at the annual Sydney Film Festival.

Also attending will be some of Australia’s local heroes — men and women who embody the essence of faith and survival captured in Unbroken, a statement from Universal said, although no names were mentioned.
Unbroken is Australia’s first world premiere of a studio picture since Anchorman 2 in 2013. In general, one major U.S. feature a year has its world premiere Down Under.
