The Fantasia Film Festival on Thursday unveiled world premieres for the latest pics from Kidnapped director Miguel Angel Vivas, Sonny Mallhi, David Keating and an international bow for Takeshi Kitano‘s Ryuzo and the Seven Henchman.
Montreal’s Fantasia festival, considered North America’s largest genre film gathering, will also give a special screening of Gilles Paquet-Brenner‘s Dark Places, which stars Charlize Theron, Christina Hendricks and Chloe Grace Moretz. The adaptation of Gillian Flynn‘s mystery thriller Dark Places also reunites Theron and Nicholas Hoult after their star-turns in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Fantasia, set for its 19th year in Montreal from July 14 to Aug. 4, will debut Miguel Angel Viva’s English-language debut Extinction, a post-apocalyptic monster movie that stars Matthew Fox, Jeffrey Donovan and Quinn McColgan. There are also world bows for Mallhi‘s directorial debut, Anguish, starring Ryan Simpkins (A Single Man), Jacob Gentry‘s sci-fi noir Synchronicity, starring Michael Ironside and Chad McKnight, and Wakewood director David Keating and writer Brendan McCarthy‘s Cherry Tree.
Fantasia is also giving Kitano’s Ryuzo and the Seven Henchmen an international premiere in Montreal after Warner Bros. released the gangster comedy, which stars Tatsuya Fuji, in Japan in April. The festival earlier announced it will open with the North American premiere of Miss Hokusai, the animated biopic of the daughter of renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, directed by Keiichi Hara.
The opening night will also feature Marvel’s Ant-Man several days before the Paul Rudd superhero film’s theatrical release.
