It’s been a hot second since Anne Hathaway has been in the limelight, but the Oscar-winning actress has returned, covering the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar where she discusses her latest film, Interstellar, out Nov. 5, and oh, that Oscars dress that opened the “nipplegate.”
As many may recall, Hathaway arrived to the 2013 Oscars in a pale pink satin Prada dress that made her nipples look, well, pointy. And she knew it too; it was neither her favorite fashion moment nor go-to gown for that evening.
“I didn’t have a friggin’ dress, which I normally wouldn’t care about,” Hathaway told Harper Bazaar‘s Laura Brown about the evening before the Academy Awards. “But I really needed a dress, and everybody hates me, and I just really needed a dress.”
Before heading out to the Dolby Theatre the night of the Oscars, she even pointed out (no pun intended) to her husband, Adam Shulman, “I look in the mirror, turn to Adam, and say, ‘It looks like my nipples are hard.’ He says, ‘You look beautiful. Your nipples look pointy. The red carpet’s about to close. We gotta go.’ ” Not long after that incident, Hathaway left her longtime stylist Rachel Zoe and began working with Penny Lovell, who styled her for this year’s Sundance Film Fest.
Nowadays, the 31-year-old star doesn’t let any “Hathahaters” faze her anymore. “This whole thing has made me a way more compassionate and loving person,” she said. “And I don’t feel sorry for myself.”
