The next project from Mudbound helmer Dee Rees is coming together nicely.
Oscar winner Anne Hathaway is in negotiations to star in The Last Thing He Wanted, adapted from Joan Didion’s best-selling 1996 political thriller about a Washington Post journalist thrown unexpectedly into the dangerous world of arms dealing. Bloom has also commenced international sales of the film in Berlin.
Marco Villalobos penned the screenplay, which is the thrilling story of one woman, alone and unrelenting in a race against time. Elevated’s Cassian Elwes (Dallas Buyers Club) optioned the book from Didion to develop it in partnership with Rees following their collaboration on Mudbound, which received four Oscar nominations, including one for Rees for best adapted screenplay.

The Fyzz Facility, the company behind last summer’s surprise box-office success 47 Meters Down, will develop the project as part of their first-look deal with Elwes. Elwes will produce and The Fyzz Facility’s Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones will produce and finance.
