The National Board of Review has announced the dates for next year’s film honors.
The organization will reveal the winners of its annual film awards Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017.
The award recipients will then be celebrated at the NBR’s annual awards gala, set for Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at the event’s longtime home of Cipriani 42nd Street.
“The NBR is thrilled to welcome the wonderful Willie Geist back to our annual celebration in January and to return to Cipriani, the evening’s longtime home,” NBR president Annie Schulhof said in a statement. “We look forward to being one of the first groups to announce and honor the best in year-end filmmaking achievements.”
NBC News’ Willie Geist, host of Sunday Today and co-host of Morning Joe, will return as emcee of the NBR gala.
For 2016, the NBR named Manchester by the Sea as its best film, with the Kenneth Lonergan-written and -directed drama receiving three other awards, including a best actor prize for star Casey Affleck and best original screenplay award for Lonergan’s script. Affleck and Lonergan would go on to win similar categories at this year’s Oscars.
The Oscars’ eventual best picture winner, Moonlight, won two awards from the NBR, a group of film enthusiasts, professionals, academics, young filmmakers and students.
Past NBR best film winners include Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), A Most Violent Year (2014), Her (2013), Zero Dark Thirty (2012), Hugo (2011), The Social Network (2010) and Up in the Air (2009).
Sept. 5, 10:19 a.m. This story has been updated with the new date for the NBR awards gala. It was previously set to take place on Jan. 4, 2018
