After several personal Twitter attacks from President Donald Trump, Arnold Schwarzenegger has decided he knows why he’s being targeted.
When asked why the president continues to berate him online, Schwarzenegger said simply, “I think he’s in love with me.”
Speaking Tuesday on SiriusXM’s The Michael Smerconish Program, the former California governor largely spoke about gerrymandering and current American politics, but of course the president and his apparent obsession with the latest Celebrity Apprentice host came up. “Why does he keep talking about you through his Twitter feed?” asked Smerconish, to which Schwarzenegger presented his theory.
“Is that what it is?” Smerconish asked, adding that he’s had “a long relationship” with the president.
“Yeah, I think so,” Schwarzenegger said, laughing. “Oh yes.”
After Schwarzenegger announced last week that he is done with The Celebrity Apprentice, Trump took to Twitter to say, without evidence, that he wasn’t leaving on his own, but was fired: “Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t voluntarily leaving the Apprentice, he was fired by his bad (pathetic) ratings, not by me. Sad end to great show.”
The president had also attacked Schwarzenegger throughout the season for the series’ falling ratings, even asking the National Prayer Breakfast to “pray for Arnold” and the show’s ratings.
Schwarzenegger, who took over hosting duties from Trump for the newest season of Apprentice, found out shortly before the show aired that Trump remains a profit participant in the NBC series, retaining his executive producer credit.
