The trailer for the 1990s-set coming-of-age drama As You Are promises no nirvana for at least one of its characters.
The movie, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year and where it won the special jury prize, follows three teens — Charlie Heaton, who made a big splash earlier this summer being part of the Stranger Things cast (he played budding photographer Jonathan Byers), Owen Campbell (Boardwalk Empire) and rising Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg — who form a bond that is tested and maybe untethered while living in a small town.
The movie, which hails from promising 23-year old filmmaker Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, impressed THR critic David Rooney, who praised the title for its “lived-in performances of its head-turning young cast” and character moments that are “beautifully observed.”
The film, which also was nominated for the grand jury prize at Sundance, will be released by Amazon in 2017. It had its international premiere this week at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
