All eyes will be on the feature film category at the 32nd American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards on Feb. 17 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland.
Feature nominees include Mudbound cinematographer Rachel Morrison, the first woman to be nominated in the category; Roger Deakins, who earned his 15th ASC nomination for Blade Runner 2049; Bruno Delbonnel for Darkest Hour, Hoyte Van Hoytema for Dunkirk, and Dan Laustsen for The Shape of Water.
For veteran cinematographer Deakins, Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 is his 15th ASC feature nomination. He previously won for The Shawshank Redemption, The Man Who Wasn’t There and Skyfall, and he additionally received the society’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
The Winston Churchill drama Darkest Hour represents Delbonnel’s fourth ASC nomination; he previous won for A Very Long Engagement. This is his first collaboration with Joe Wright.
Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk is Van Hoytema’s second ASC nomination; He was also nominated in 2012 for Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy. He previously worked with Nolan on Interstellar.
Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water is Laustsen’s first ASC nomination. It’s his third collaboration with del Toro, following Crimson Peak and Mimic.
Mudbound is Morrison’s first collaboration with Dee Rees. Her latest work is Marvel’s Black Panther for Ryan Coogler, with whom she previously collaborated on Fruitvale Station.
The same five cinematographers are nominated for the Oscar.
Morrison also is the first woman nominated for an Oscar in cinematography. This is Deakins’ 14th Oscar nomination (he’s the most nominated living cinematographer without a win), and Debonnel’s fifth Academy Award nom. It’s the first Oscar noms for Van Hoytema and Laustsen.
Deakins, Delbonnel, Van Hoytema and Laustsen also are vying for the BAFTA in cinematography this weekend, along with Ben Davis for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Nominees are Máté Herbai for On Body and Soul, which won Camerimage’s Golden Frog last November in Poland; Mikhail Krichman for Loveless, which earned Camerimage’s Silver Frog; and Mart Taniel for November.
In the TV categories, Game of Thrones and 12 Monkeys received two nominations apiece.

Titanic‘s Oscar-winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Additionally, Angelina Jolie will receive the Board of Governors Award; Alan Caso gets the Career Achievement in Television Award; Russell Boyd earns the International Award and Stephen Lighthill will be honored with the Presidents Award.
