SYDNEY – Animal Logic, the Australian visual and digital effects house responsible for the animation work on Warner Bros hit The Lego Movie, has split into three specialist subsidiaries that will operate under the Animal Logic umbrella, CEO Zareh Nalbandian announced Tuesday.
The new group structure will consist of separate Animation and Visual FX (VFX) arms, and Los Angeles-based Animal Logic Entertainment, a feature film development arm that will focus on developing a slate of animation, hybrid and VFX driven films for the company.

Following its acquisition of local company Fuel VFX last year, the Fuel and AL visual effects groups will merge to form Animal Logic VFX, bringing both companies’ talent and technology under one roof.
The Animal Logic VFX team will include executive producers, Jason Bath and Luke Hetherington and VFX supervisors, Andy Brown, Paul Butterworth, Kirsty Millar, Dave Morley and Will Reichelt. The team recently completed work on Iron Man 3, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Great Gatsby, The Rover and is currently in production on Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken.
“The VFX landscape has changed dramatically over the last two years, and the consolidation of our teams, technology and facilities means that we can continue to remain competitive in an ever-changing VFX global market,” Bath said.

The Lego Movie opens in Australia on April 3.
Warner Bros recently set The Lego Movie sequel for a May 26, 2017 release, but the studio has yet to confirm the creative teams for the film.
Meanwhile Animal Logic Entertainment will focus on the development of feature films the company will produce in collaboration with studios, directors, writers and producers. Heading up ALE are producers, Nalbandian and Jason Lust, and executives, Jonathan Hludzinski and Felicity Staunton.
