If you ever wanted to wander the world of Pandora, here’s your chance.
James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, and events and exhibits producer GES have revealed that Avatar: Discover Pandora, a new interactive exhibition, will debut Dec. 7 in Taipei, Taiwan.
Inspired by Cameron’s Avatar — the highest-grossing film in history with roughly $2.8 billion and with four sequels on the way — the exhibit will first open at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Place in Taipei City for a three-month showcase through GES in partnership with Beast Kingdom, a Taiwan-based developer of European/U.S. comic and movie products. Then GES, in collaboration with Lightstorm and Fox, will tour Avatar: Discover Pandora in additional markets.
GES’s creative team is working with Lightstorm and Fox to develop the exhibit.
Spanning roughly 12,000 square feet of space, Avatar: Discover Pandora is designed to present Pandora as a real place, with settings such as the film’s Hallelujah Mountains and Tree of Souls, as well as life-size re-creations of creatures including the Banshee, Direhorse, and Viperwolf. The companies said there would be multi-sensory elements related to touch, sight, smell, and hearing. One activity, for instance, would use sensors to allow a digital banshee on a screen to mimic a guest movements, or for woodsprites to gather around the guest.
The exhibit is also designed to explore the fictional science seen in the movie but relate back to real-world science.
Said Kathy Franklin, president, franchise development at Lightstorm, in a statement: “This exhibition has something for everyone, from fans of the film who want to experience Pandora in a brand-new way as they await our four theatrical film sequels, to families looking for an exciting activity, or to school groups wanting to explore science through an inspiring lens.”
