Avengers fans, consider the speculative engine refueled, at least when it comes to next year’s Avengers 4. Frank Grillo has confirmed that he will reappear in the fourth installment of the Marvel super-team series, seemingly giving something else about the movie away in the process.
During an appearance on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, Grillo said that he would be making one more Marvel movie appearance as Brock Rumlow, aka Hydra agent and terrorist Crossbones, despite dying in Captain America: Civil War — and appeared to confirm a long-standing rumor about the follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War at the same time.
“He makes an appearance in the next Avengers movie,” Grillo said about his character. “But it’s a flashback … I’m allowed to say whatever I want because I’m never doing another Marvel movie.” (The reason why not, he revealed, had less to do with Rumlow’s death and more to do with his age; “I’m 117 years old,” he joked.)
Grillo’s statement follows leaked photos from the Avengers 4 shoot that appeared to show Chris Evans in a version of the Captain America costume from 2012’s The Avengers, standing in a set that resembles the New York setting of that movie, prompting fans to speculate about both a flashback sequence to happier, earlier times in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or perhaps even a time-travel plotline. Now, it would appear to be confirmed that some of Avengers 4 will take place at some point prior to Civil War, although just when isn’t clear yet.
Avengers 4 will be released May 3, 2019.
