The Tribeca Film Festival is bringing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to meet New York City’s bravest and finest heroes.
The Festival on Wednesday announced that it would close out its 11th annual run with a screening of Marvel’s The Avengers at the Tribeca BMCC PAC on April 28, offering special opportunities for police officers, firefighters, medical workers and military members to meet and greet with the filmmakers and cast.
“Showing at Tribeca is both an honor and a double homecoming for me, who grew up in Manhattan, and for the movie, which wrapped production there,” director Joss Whedon said in a statement, jokingly adding, “I’m thoroughly psyched to be closing the festival with our intimate little think-piece.”
The film features the iconic characters of Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Bruce Banner/Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), as well as turns from Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgard, Tom Hiddleston and Clark Gregg. The world premiere of the film is in Hollywood on April 11, and will hit theaters on May 4.
The Festival was co-founded by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal in the wake of the September 11th attacks on Lower Manhattan, giving the film and its outreach to local first responders an extra resonance. This year’s festival, which will open with the Judd Apatow-produced comedy Five Year Engagement, which stars Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, runs from April 18-28.
The schedule includes films from James Franco, Andy Serkis, Harmony Kormine, Zoe Kazan, and other major names.
