With the final dregs of Golden Globes after-afterparty champagne quite possibly still being slurped in Los Angeles, the next major stop on the awards season calendar is about to kick off in London.
The nominations for the 2018 BAFTA Awards are being revealed early local time Tuesday morning (late Monday night L.A. time), with Natalie Dormer and Letitia Wright on announcing duties at BAFTA’s headquarters.
Globe winner Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, produced by British banner Blueprint Pictures and backed by Film4, is expected to fare well, alongside Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, which features a crop of U.K. stars, and Working Title’s Darkest Hour, which earned Gary Oldman the best actor Globe on Sunday night. Get Out, Phantom Thread, The Shape of Water, Molly’s Game and Call Me by Your Name, which all played a part at the Globes and are likely to be major presences at the Academy Awards, could also feature in the BAFTA nominations.
Brit family drama Paddington 2, which wasn’t in the running on Sunday night (it opens in the U.S. this Friday) but has earned critical acclaim and a box-office haul in excess of $53 million on home soil, is also expected to be a contender.
The nominations announcement is being made at 7:37 a.m. London time (11:37 p.m. PT Monday). The BAFTA Awards ceremony itself is set to be held Feb. 18 at the Royal Albert Hall.
