Bridesmaids co-writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo have reunited as quirky pals embarking on the vacation of a lifetime in Lionsgate’s Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar.
The latest trailer for the comedy has a spooky beginning, opening with a dark, purple sky looming over an ominous-looking tree, followed by a close-up shot of someone riding a bicycle.
As Wiig’s Star, short for Starbara, sneaks into her home, she finds Mumolo’s Barb flicking the lamp on and off.
“What are you doing?” Star asks.
“Oh, I was just playing with this lamp,” Barb, just “plain old Barb” replies, lightening the mood.
Set to Madonna’s hit song “Holiday,” the rest of the trailer shows Barb and Star hanging out with friends over a dinner of hot dog soup, getting their portraits painted and shopping around Vista Del Mar.
It’s clear that the quirky pair of lifelong friends are a bit bizarre, especially when Star shows off her new phone case.
“Wait, we don’t have cell phones,” Barb says.
“I know, I’m gonna take it home and glue it to our landline” Star reasons.
The trailer ends on Barb and Star meeting a fellow vacationer — played by Jamie Dornan, clad in a floral-print Hawaiian shirt — at the hotel bar.
When Dornan reveals he’s staying in room 611, Star chimes in.
“Barb, oh my gosh, he’s in 611?” Star exclaims, trying to grab Dornan’s attention.
“611?” Barb says. “We’re in 124!”
The film also stars Damon Wayans Jr., Fortune Feimster, Wendi McLeandon-Covey, Rose Abdoo, Vanessa Bayer, Phyllis Smith and Kwame Patterson. Directed by Josh Greenbaum, the film is producerd by Wiig, Mumolo, Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Margot Hand.
Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar will be available via premium video on demand on Feb. 12.
