Barbershop 3 writers Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver have signed on to write the screenplay for Universal’s untitled girl’s trip project.
The duo will reunite with Barbershop 3 helmer Malcolm D. Lee, who is directing the Universal comedy. William Packer (Ride Along, Think Like a Man) will produce via his Will Packer Productions banner.
An earlier draft of the project was written by Erica Rivinoja. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps.
Lee’s The Best Man Holiday was a strong hit for Universal after it opened in mid-November to $30.1 million. It’s grossed more than $71 million to date. He’s currently in production on Barbershop 3.
Packer’s next projects include executive producing Straight Outta Compton for Universal (in theaters this August), and producing Ride Along 2, which opens January 2016.
Barris and Oliver wrote the screenplay for comedy sequel Barbershop 3, which is currently in production. Barris is the creator and a writer on the hit comedy Black-ish and is currently adapting the iconic 70’s show Good Times for the big screen. He’s repped by CAA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
Oliver is repped by ICM and Principato-Young.
