She directed Yentl, The Prince of Tides, and The Mirror Has Two Faces, but could a TV episode of the CBS show Life in Pieces be next on Barbra Streisand’s plate? According to husband James Brolin, who stars as John Short on the show, it’s a definite possibility.
“I went to her originally and proposed that she might direct one,” Brolin told The Hollywood Reporter at The Paley Center for Media’s panel An Evening With Life in Pieces on Monday night. “She said maybe in the second season, once we’re settled.”
According to co-star Thomas Sadoski, Streisand is no stranger to the Life in Pieces set.
“She came and watched us shoot the pilot,” Sadoski said. “She couldn’t have been any lovelier, and having her around giving us support was amazing. Literally, anything that woman wants to do, she’s the queen.”
Executive producer Jason Winer revealed there have already been talks about having Babs on ever since her visit, but as a guest star.
“It’s something we’re talking about,” Winer said. “We’ve talked about a couple different possibilities. Jen’s mother is one example. An ex of Brolin’s is another example. I think it would be fun to have her play a very weird character who is nothing like her, let her think outside the box.”
However, Streisand’s hubby thinks the best bet to nab his legendary wife is as a director, if she can fit it into her busy schedule and if they can meet her demands, that is.
“If she has a lot of room to change the script, move things around, choose between two or three scripts, then perhaps,” Brolin said of the possibility. “I don’t know if that’s going to happen. Plus, she’s directing Catherine the Great right now, and she’s got three projects going, plus an album. She’s so busy, I have to make an appointment to talk to her!”
